Is this celadon? I don't really have any experience of the stuff. I grabbed it at a car boot sale last year for a quid. Looking forward to the warmer weather and pedalling down to the car boot on Sunday mornings again soon. I often buy too much to be able to pedal back. The Bang and Olufsen beocentre was probably the worst example.
Back to the cup. Do all three items go together as in the photo? They don't seem to sit quite right. 20230320_233420.jpg 20230320_233315.jpg 20230320_233331.jpg 20230320_233401.jpg 20230320_233352.jpg

The bottom mark is upside down, Chinese, says Yongzhen Nian Zhi, per gotheborg.

It doesn't look like Chinese as I know it (not that I know it at all really). Is it some ancient script?

Sorry. Cross purposes. I was trying to see which of the individual symbols was upside down and wondering why one would be upside down :banghead:

    Okay thanks.

Unfortunately between me and the car boot, there is a road known locally as 'bumpy road'.

I took my satsuma vase to be value at Bonhams in Chester this morning. While I was there I produced this cup as well to ask for their opinion. He said that it has no age and he can tell that the characters on it are printed. He said it's not transfer ware but thinks it may have been printed with a flexible stamp that is inked and them wrapped around the cup. He said that generally speaking, celadon isn't decorated other than with relief work.
