Featured Baroque pearl ring… Victorian?

I recently acquired this beautiful solitaire pearl ring and I’m trying to figure out a little more about it, as the seller had no history. It is a large size at US 9 and I plan on wearing it on my index finger. It appears Victorian in styling to me. Am I correct in calling the pearl baroque? The seller referred to it as a potato pearl, is that correct?
There are no hallmarks whatsoever and I’m wondering if they could have disappeared if/when the ring was stretched to become the large size that it now is. The band does appear to taper and thin slightly at the back but I suppose it could have been originally made that way.
The seller made no claims as to the gold content, calling it “difficult to test”. I am no expert with the acid solutions but the scratch appeared to withstand the 10K acid solution and dissolved with the 14K.
Your opinions are appreciated concerning age, origin, gold, and pearl... and anything else that comes to mind!
I didn’t spend much so if the whole thing is completely fake I won’t be disappointed. It’s pretty and I’ll wear it regardless.

Beautiful ring! The pearl has a very nice luster:woot:
I’d call it baroque, not potato, and I think it is a natural saltwater pearl, and original to the mount, which seems Victorian era to me (that, and the luster, excludes Chinese freshwater pearl IMHO;)).

    Oooh, thank you!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees beauty in this simple pearl. :shame:
I did wonder if the mount may have originally held something else, due to the solitaire styling, but to my eye (and under my loupe) the prongs do not appear to have been messed with.

EDIT: And I definitely see a difference in luster/appearance between this pearl and the cheap freshwater pearls in the necklaces I and my daughters have had.

I took it for just a decorative swirl.
