    This box is more detailed than yours and has the artist's name on the plaque, but is made from another ship's wood.

    Someone probably made a fortune from selling wood from ships and handy folks made them into various objects. Maybe you could buy the plaque along with the wood.

    Just guessing.

    It does appear to be a hand written note. That may help, should you decide to sell. I am clueless on value of such a thing.
