I found this at the thrift store. It is heavy for it's small size (3 1/2"T x 2 1/2" W) & I thought it might be silver?
It has golf scenes all around it.
And Made in Japan on bottom
Any idea what this was/is? (if it wasn't so small I'd think it was a trophy)
    Thanks

What made you think it's silver? Certainly doesn't look much like it - all that red? Is it rust?

I thought it was a biscuit tin... but given its diminutive size... candy? Toothpicks?

    wait... silver? I'm confused.

    I have no idea.:hilarious:

And yet, it looks very brassy on the inside.

    Looks like "tinned" copper.

Wasn't sure what it was - I guess the weight made me think it was something of substance. I thought it was old also until I saw the Made in Japan on the bottom

It may be silver plated. You might try a little silver polish in a small area.
I think it might be pre-WWII.

I was under the impression that Made in Japan was a post WWII mark?

It looks Art Deco to me, so I agree with a possible pre-war.

Made in Japan is post 1921. Before then items made there (if marked at all for origin) would have used "Nippon" the Japanese word for Japan.

Looking through photos of early US Opens it seems the knickers and news boy cap look fell out of favor by 1932 (the knickers hung in for a while longer but not the caps)

That would fit nicely with the Pre-war/Art Deco period idea.

Could it be to hold golf tees?

Marks were required post 1928, I think?
