Sorry for the hue disparity between the two pictures. My son bought me a new computer, and I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to do something as simple as edit a picture.

Sometimes newer isn't necessarily better. :(:(:(

I started out with things like cobol, fortran, rbase 5000, etc. Kept up with things through Lotus 123, microsoft word and excel (and probably some I've forgotten) to google docs and sheets.

I know things my kids don't, like moving things around in folders, keyboard shortcuts, etc. I feel like I've kept up better than others that are my age with the new technology.

But damn, I can't make heads or tails of anything on this computer. We've had it a week, and it's already telling me we're out of storage and need to buy more. A new way of parting someone from their money, I suppose. And when I try to use any photo editing software, it either won't recognize google drive photos or it wants me to pay for their services.

Sorry for the rant folks. I don't want to tell him how much I dislike it as he needs a good boost in confidence in his decisions right now, but doggone I want my old computer back. :(

I'll figure it out one way or another though.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering that myself. But howlite's cheap, isn't it? Can't imagine someone would fake it, but I'll keep that possibility in mind.

Why not pull out the old Laptop when working & replace it w/ the new one when he's home ? Unless he's still at home of course,or maybe figuring it out together will be a great bonding experience.

Yeah, he has sensed my frustration, and he said when he has a day off, we'll sit down together and take a look. I don't really think he'll be able to help though as he also seemed kind of perplexed about different things on the computer. But hey, if he helps me understand even some of it, I'll be good with that.

@tie.dye.cat, what have you got for a Photo editing program on there now........ all you basically need is one decent program and it doesn't have to cost a fortune either!! PaintShop Pro is a pretty all encompassing program and right now, you get to play with it for free for 30 days.....I do love some of the things you can do with it, but I also have TOO many editing programs on my computer!!:rolleyes::rolleyes: It has a great 'frames' gallery on it.....might be worth it to at least TRY! After I think they say it's $99.

Are you using windows, because that comes with free photo editing software.

Here is another one to use that is free and you can play around with it. It just takes some time to get use to it.If I can do it, you can do it. And I use it all the time.
And there is no download. Just use it when you want.

Magnesite rather than howlite. The brown veinings are the giveaway. Howlite has black veins.

Which OS is your new machine using?

I taught Fortran, many years ago.

And I had to look up 'Fortran' and still haven't a clue, and don't think I'll head in that direction - for ME!!!!!!! I'm still on Win 10! (BUT well aware, it needs an upgrade!!!!):happy:;);)

Aqui see if befunky is good for you. I use it after I do some photo editing that came with my pc which is windows 10. It is very simple and it is free and no download.

I had to use it as a college freshman. Punch cards and all, in the days of Prehistory.

Windows 11 which is an adjustment in itself. My last 'puter was Windows 10.

That's ok, it's so old and been so long, I couldn't tell you a thing I learned in my class...lol.

And yeah, I am going from windows 10 to 11, so that's a big adjustment. I feel like things look less streamlined in windows 11, like a step backwards. I'll figure it out eventually.
