Found these cups and saucers. Quite modern but unusual. Any more info regarding them would be appeciated. 20230309_172231.jpg 20230309_172241.jpg 20230309_172138.jpg 20230309_172601.jpg 20230309_172923.jpg

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

How many do you have? Pretty... wish I could help read the bottom.

Not odd if it's actually Japanese. ;)

Reverse image search hit on this link below. The pattern is almost identical. The design on the bottom of the bowl is different than the cloud-like design on yours. Also the mark appears to be different.

They are calling it Arabesque pattern. I looked up the word Sometsuke and it simply means blue and white in Japanese. I did not look up "Mino Ware" or yakimono (but I'm guessing yakimono means pottery or porcelain).

This same bowl is on eBay, too.

Not odd at all. Google translate only picked up on the right side of the mark. Japanese translation is "blue and white porcelain".

Thank you. I missed your post. I had a bowl with a very similar pattern a while ago. It was a modern noodle bowl. Not sure if it is just a modern design or has some history. Either way I think these are quite modern. They feel too clean and fresh to have any age.

Thanks for your search efforts. I had no luck on these with google

I had something with that design a few years ago and was told it was an octopus pattern.

Octopus tentacles makes sense. All I could see before you said that was spiraling vines with thorns.

Yes, it's called octopus scroll: https://www.trocadero.com/stores/Ea...pus-Scroll-Tako-Karakusa-Vase-Cover-Edo-c1800. It's Japanese with a kanji (Chinese writing) mark. I don't think the right characters mean blue-&-white, but the left ones mean "big island" in Chinese; in Japanese they could have a different meaning. Overall the name of a person or place of manufacture I guess
