    It looks to me like something inside some kind of casing.

    I think the stone that people open to see inside is *concretion*?
    No help to this discussion ( and neither is this: I have boxes and boxes of unknown fossils and some look like this )

    I can not tell from the pictures but it is also possible that it is a crinoid. I find crinoids in our creek but the variety here is usually 5 sided. There are other varieties . Does it look like that little bump could be a stem coming from the calyx (head).

    It looks like a petrified fruit or nut.
    Something with a thick rind.

    That's what it reminds me of, too, but then when I look from a different angle, it appears to be a shell of some sort.

    This appears to have 4 sections. It's hard to tell what the little bump is.
