Here's an old piece picked up years ago (where,price-who knows). It's 18" by 13" overall,14" by 9 3/4" image size.
I'm wondering if the little pencil notations in the lower right hand corner could be printers proofing marks (not framer's notations) ? As always-thanks
    PS-Last pics a watermark.

    Ven1.jpg VenCls1.jpg VenCls2.jpg VenCls4.jpg for looking.

Thanks Debora-Yes Litten, now to research 'Head & Co.' Do You think those little numbers are framers notations or printers notes on tweaking the printing plate or ink amount ?
PS-It aint the Louvre, but the Brooklyn Museum pops up a lot in my searches, some very fine stuff.

Not much on Head & Co. Seems to have been active in the 1910s-1920s.

That works date-wise for this piece, thanks Debora ! It does seem to be a 'laid on' paper, but obviously not 18th century variety.

The nearly incandescent light radiating from that doorway is a powerful focus...an' a mark of the engraver's skill. I really like it, bosco...thanks!

He's not Whistler but on this piece he got it the light.

Certainly superior to most works depicting Venice scenes.

If I'm ever in Brooklyn it's a bucket list destination, and I'll have the 'Westside Story' soundtrack on my headphones.

Fab museum. Unfortunately, it has to compete with The Met.

I sold this Litten in the shop a couple months ago.
Bought it at a yard sale, thought it was a James Mcbey when I first saw it.

This, not mine, is a James Mcbey.

Interesting comparison. Did you happen to notice the type of paper?

No, I didn’t notice the paper type, it was in the original frame and matted. Sold as I found it.

The avatar photo is a couple years ago here on the bluff. The tree is windswept and reminds me of the ancient windswept pinions on my property in Colorado.
