It's interesting, Weird that it looks like the cord was attached & then the piece was dyed. I don't recognize the scene. It is very much in the style of a Poniatoski gem. Not recognizing the action or the woman, I have not so far been able to find it. Hercules does not have a good record with women & the boy behind her looks like he wants to keep H away. If anything romantic were going on you would expect that to be Cupid back there, but it isn't.

Having now seen the full set of photos, realize that green silk was knotted in at the ends to make the cord less conspicuous where it crosses the green glass.

He seems to have bought quite a number of them:

Ponytail Girl, I think. No wonder seller does not take returns, although characterizes her as 'Very pretty.'

It always boggles my mind that such things are even considered acceptable to leave the cutter's workshop, much less to be made into a commercial piece of jewellery. Maybe it's by the famous blind cameo cutter of Torre del Greco & I'm just not appreciating it.

    Yay!
It's a pet peeve of mine re: jewelry sellers who picture their item in a beautiful antique box but note, "Box for display only, not included" or some such. DON'T SHOW A GORGEOUS OLD BOX IN THE PHOTO IF IT'S NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE. Vintage toy sellers don't generally photograph an old toy with it's box and then say the box isn't included. Boxes add value, sometimes very significant value, to an item. In fact, an empty antique jewelers box can sell for good money on its own (probably to jewelry sellers who want to use it for their listing photos, LOL.) Jewelry sellers who use this method are teasing in potential buyers and, frankly, I consider it borderline dishonest. JMHO, everyone's entitled to theirs, of course.
    (Now stepping down from soapbox...:shy:)
    Congrats on your purchase!

    Thanks! Not exactly cheap, but...
I saw a, UK seller who stages her new jewelry (enamel bees), which can be bought for 1€ from China, in nice old cases, described as vintage/antique from HER collection... People buy those repeatably for 9 to 15£:banghead:
When I messaged her saying it was not fair to such misdescribe NEW pieces, she apologized, and only changed the category for new costume.
    Buyers beware:meh:

For the boxes, I buy those which are affordable in the always deceived hope they will fit one of my pieces:joyful:

I've always loved the black ones, and they're never cheap.

As for the bees, buyer beware I guess. Eboo won't do anything. They don't even take down ivory ... unless it's an ivory colored shirt, and I'm selling it.

I long ago learned to assume a decent box in a photo was probably not part of the deal, although if the item interests me otherwise, I do check for disclaimers. If seller has several items shown with the same box, I don't even check, especially if it is clear the brooch doesn't actually fit inside. I have bought a few vintage boxes over the years. Most are now so pricey, either the BIN price or where they get bid up to, have looked at some, not bought any.
