I picked up this silver an enamel necklace recently, was just cleaning it up and having doubts on origin. Originally I had it pegged as Indian, but something about the colours and design is making me question it. It's vintage rather than antique imo the panels are in pure silver and it's stamped 1000 to the reverse. Thoughts?

I think your initial thought was right, India. It is lovely.

I keep thinking that I've seen something similar before, but can't remember when or where.
I still think India is the most likely origin though.

Thanks, for some reason it's giving me second thoughts, not sure why just one of those gut feelings. Perhaps it's the colours.

It's from somewhere they do both nice enamel and that granulation work. An Indian smith could probably do it, but the front really doesn't look Indian to me either. The Turks could do the front, but the back doesn't look like Turkish work. So..dunno.

It doesn't look like granulation, more like cannetille.

Following up, found this - https://www.invaluable.com/auction-...namel-panel-bracelet-antique--45-c-1ce4913b95 - no detail given on their idea of origin, but the hinges of the panels look ok for India.

Also saw a piece in similar design without enamel, it was suggesting Rajasthan - lost it now though and can't find it again, think it was on Pinterest.

So looks like it probably is Indian, so many different styles on post war stuff, it's hard to keep a track of it all.

Reverse image search got this. Sellers are calling it Italian revival without explanation why. I know the mark they can't read on the back is the 1000 mark.

I remember something like this too, with the shaded enamel work. There was a lot of discussion and I think origins of Spain, Portugal or Italy were posited, maybe even Russia, too. I think it was in the jewelry category, but it could have been an enamelled box or plate.

I know something like this has been on the board in the last few months.:joyful:
