Stones and Rocks

I was asked to post pictures of the stones that came in an auction lot.

I think this first one is petrified wood but Im not sure.



This group of stones have been tumbled or polished. The orange piece at the top looks like glass.

This group is rough stones but there is some color hidden in them.

Moldavite

 

The rough ones might be opal, I’ve a couple of small raw pieces. I see rock crystal quartz and carnelian and banded agate in one group. Mounted one looks like onyx. Another fire agate?

 

I was talking to someone at the auction last night about how much we learn when we buy boxlots because of the whatsits we find in them. A lot of my time for ebay listings is spent doing research. I enjoy it.

 

The second photo down the center stone may be a garnet.Shine a light through at the back and see if it shows color.

 

And I've found some very nice things in box-lots. Once bid and won one, just because there was a small carving I liked - and looking through it later my wife pointed out that there was a weaving in there by a very well-known NW Coast weaver, worth way more than what I paid for the box.
Textiles aren't really my thing, but it is nice!

 

I bet Komo would have spotted it. Box lots can be the best because they don't describe much of anything, and if only one person knows what they're looking at...bingo. The one in the middle of the second shot is definitely a raw garnet. The clear ones are quartz.

 

Me, too...it keeps me outta th' pool halls!
