Hi Suezq. Think you may not be getting any comments because others are having the same problem I am making out what you are showing us in the closeups. What leads you to consider Chanel from 1918 a possibility? And what are we supposed to be seeing in the closeups?

Although Coco Chanel was already selling clothes during WWI, she only started to design jewellery after she had really made a name for herself in fashion. That was long after 1918.

It is a "C" mark and 2 long marks like swords with the lower tips crossed but I do have quite the imagination ":wideyed:" . Was it 1912 she opened shop selling hats etc..I imagine as Desrues was a friend he let her sell his hat pins jewelry line etc...and marked it with a "C" for her "".

From my cram course on Chanel, it was 1918 & jewellery was added later. I think the story of how Chanel came to use the back to back overlapping Cs as her mark got told at a show Verdura had a few years ago but have now completely forgotten.

I forget the why and how, I do remember that the CC logo was designed by G. Chanel in 1925, but didn't become really prevalent until a few years/collections later.

Oh I know the first one was bad but I was trying to show the C mark . I tried taking better ones yesterday but they didn't really look any better . I will try something different tommorow . I did see a early 1900s rhinestone potmetal hat pins signed Chanel in cursive . It's my understanding some of her early jewelry was only marked C . Not made by her but from her Milliner's shop or one of her other two boutiques ?

There is something much more than a "C",the photos are too out of focus to see the whole mark.

Yes, there seem to be lines radiating from the c thing.

I think it is better to focus on what the mark actually looks like first.
If you have a clear picture of what the entire mark looks like, someone here may recognize it. If no one does, research it on a marks site. Then, if the mark turns out to be something Chanel related, see if you can find early Chanel pieces with that mark to get an approximate date.

Finding early early Chanel even learning before the famous Gripox era the styles the metals the designs the patterns some Edwardian can be quite the history lesson. ""

To me the design on the clasp looks like a jumping person, a bit like this:
The part that could possibly look like a C could be a circle.
Not even sure any part of it is a mark, or intentional in any way.
