Singer Sewing Machine doubt

    Good night,

I recently rescued a singer sewing machine that I want to restore, it's from 1929.

Looking at photos of similar models, a question has arisen regarding the foot of the furniture.

All the stands I've seen from the period are black and most have gold accents. Well it turns out that mine has those details in green.

I have seen on the internet that sometimes they were of a different color, but due to the quality of the painting it seems that someone painted it maybe some years later.

How can I find out what the original color of the machine was? Were there Singer sewing machines with green details?
    Thank you!

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Rotated & screenshot: I would suggest 'googling' or checking 'ebay.com' from 1929, you should see enough from that era to decide on a color.....

Singer decals were always either black, plain cast iron, or gold-painted. I've never seen one in any other colour.

What's the quality of the green paint? Does it look hand brushed? Are there chips or scratches to show if anything is underneath?

My guess is that it's been repainted. Singer was very consistent with its decorations. Black and gold. I've never known for them to vary that, except for when they never painted anything at all.

I restored a family-friend's sewing machine about 6 years ago. She bought this beautiful antique SINGER treadle. I got it working, and I even repainted the decals for her with gold paint, to make them stand out. She loved it.

It's hard to tell from photos, but this green is almost certainly a repaint. My guess would be in the mid to late 20th Century.

I keep threatening to restore one I had picked up years ago. It's buried, but from my recollection, it is consistent with the black and gold theme.

As you've mentioned, that green is applied in a slipshod manner, too.

Singer treadles are quilter's machines, at least if you ask quilters. I agree the green was a later addition.

You can always put a blacklight on it - depending up when it was repainted, it should fluoresce brightly - more so then any of the older painted coats.

Sandblast, prime, powder coat or spray (black color).Might have to get a few parts replated.Apply decals, and pinstripe (by hand or decal ?).Hopefully the mechanical parts just need oil.
PS-If pinstripes needed-very difficult for amateur to pull-off perfectly.

just a curiosity whilst were talking about singer tables

found out a few years ago why some tables are bevelled one way and others bevelled the opposite

its so when you have 8 tables ( +- ) they can be pushed together snuggly

( apologies if bevelled isn't the correct word pfff.gif )

    Good evening,

finally today I decided to remove the paint and when I did so I saw that the golden color was slightly visible under the green. so question resolved. With this cast support I will finish removing the paint and then I will paint it with anticorrosive metal paint, black, and the details in gold.

The table of the sewing machine is quite bad because of the woodworm. I'm going to sand it, kill the woodworm, cover holes and varnish it.

And finally the sewing machine, although it is in quite good condition, the corner where the serial number is somewhat rusty because a little paint has chipped. I'm going to remove the paint that is about to fall and paint it black (although a small part of the gold decoration obviously I won't be able to recover)

I hope to do a decent job. I understand mechanics but I have never restored anything.

A question that arises... do you know what type of wood is used for these furniture? To try to cover the woodworm holes as best as possible.

The machine will be beautiful when it's done. Do you know what model it is?

Some of the older machines may have had wood laminated tops, you could fill the wood worm holes & then cover w/ new real wood laminate.Take the table top to a local higher-end furniture/wood craftsman & see what kind of wood was orig used. You could also take a closeup photo & ask @verybrad what wood it is.
