Love the painting, Hate the frame.
I was a little unsure about this signature because most of his paintings are signed with his full name. But I did find a few that were signed like mine.
It is small, the painting is 12" x 12" According to the back it was framed in Modesto CA. in 1990

Oh dear! That frame is most unfortunate! The person who caused that combination to happen was probably trying to "enhance" the coloring in the painting. Instead he/she reduced it to Woolworth status!

 

I don't think it's awful. Very of its time. His work is very kitschy anyway.

The clothes maketh the man,as does the frame the picure (...but not totally).The scene is probably of Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada.Would it possibly be of interest to a gallery up there ?

 

I'm the second vote, along with Debora, that the frame goes with the era. That dusty rose, mauve-ish color was all the rage.
It's a calm serene color and I think it goes very well with the painting.

 

Are you sure that was framed in Modesto, CA? I see the name Chavez, Modesto with the comma implied.

I just saw Chavez and thought Modesto the city.
It Isn't very far from here. But could be his last name.

That 80s Pink frame, as others said, doesn't do anything any favors. Probably somebody trying to make it fit into a room.

I don't have a pink bathroom!
Lol maybe solid oak or mahogany.
If I keep it I will definitely reframe it.
