Hiya all, So I have had this packed away for 20 years or so. Rediscovered today. Packed it because I know it has some value but at the time didn't have time to research. Could be worth $10 or $1000 I don't know. Seems to be mostly in German. Over 100 entries. The Gast family were business people in the 1800s and ran an engraving business in St Louis. Some where I have same engravings ,.working stuff on tracing paper they used. Most is quite fancy as I recall. What should I do with it?
Autograph books were popular a bit over 100 years ago. You'd get your friends and neighbors, teachers, etc to write something in it for you. The names might not mean anything to anyone living.
Hard to tell exactly what you have there from a few pages. It's not all in German is it? And not everyone was associated with the Concordia Seminary were they? It does have historical value for genealogists and local historians. And I suspect Calvin Gast's family would be delighted to have it back. Debora
