Here's a ring from the same collection I've been going through, (most—but not all—of which is vintage costume jewelry). This was pretty black. I gave it a leisurely MAAS bath, followed by brushing. It's still dark, but I think it looks much better. The ringtop measures 1" x 3/4".

The good thing about the gentle bath is that I became able to make out the word STERLING...
...and the maker mark CINI (a tougher shot).

So when I looked at other Cini sterling rings, a similar one used the word "repose" in the title. It made me think of Repousse. Is this right? How old might this ring be? Is the style, or decoration, Art Nouveau?

Finally, Aquarius begins in about seven weeks. What might be the right timing for listing it?

Here are two shots from the back. In the second one, I though something was written at the bottom, but can only make out a © mark (I think).

    As always, thank you!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    It's beautiful...!!!
I can't answer your other questions, but as for the WHEN... I would think maybe 4-6 weeks before might be optimal, since that period would sorta coincide with when people start to think about others' birthdays, and there would be plenty of time for auction, shipping, etc. Good luck!

If "Morning Glory" is correct, Cini has been around since the 20's, but I would think your ring is from the heyday of "What's You Sign" (the 80's?)

I wouldn't call it Art Nouveau. The seller using "repose" needs to consult a dictionary before writing their next listing.

Oops! Hit the wrong key. I wasn't done.

You piece was "cast" and not handwrought, so "repousse" doesn't really apply either. But it is three-dimensional.

Reminds me of the musical "Hair." This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius, etc. That was in 1967 or so.

Oh, I'm happy you think it's beautiful. I thought it was pretty striking myself.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Found this... makes me bet this was way pre-80s or even 60s.
Also, I found a couple of statements that their Zodiac series was BIG, and Googling Cini Zodiac Series brings up a good deal of stuff.

    Anyway, here's what I found...
"Founded by Gugliemo Cini in 1922, the Cini company has long been associated with intricate jewelry, primarily in sterling silver, and all of splendid quality. The designs display strong classical and renaissance influence, undoubtedly inspired by the rich art and architecture of Gugliemo Cini's native country, Italy. Some pieces were reproductions of antique fine jewelry but most were original designs. A variety of techniques were used, including solid cast pieces, repoussé and filigree, and a few pieces were gold plated. Production ceased in the 1970s and Gugliemo Cini died in 1979, but family members produced a few pieces from his original designs in the 1990s"

You're welcome, northern! I'm not a "Joolie" but I found that site via Chicago Silver a while back.

I'm just glad I found something that helped. Usually, my hot leads are wild goose chases or misunderstanding the question or... oh, I don't know... hallucinatory. Thank YOU.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The Cini Aquarius brooch/pin seems to be widely available through eBay and etsy. And probably other sites. Thus, it is selling for less than some of their other designs.

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=cini+aquarius+sterling&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=50613&_sargn=-1&saslc=1&_salic=1&_sop=1&_dmd=1&_ipg=200

Noticing that there was a different Aquarius ring by Cini that probably did well in the above search results, I did an eBay search in Completed listings on Cini Sterling Ring. All sorts of rings came up. That looks a bit better:
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=cini+ring+sterling&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo=&_sabdhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=50613&_sargn=-1&saslc=1&_salic=1&_sop=13&_dmd=1&_ipg=200

And I am curious about the symbolism on the ring in the original post. ... Having Sun in Aquarius myself, I'm pretty familiar with the symbolism, and this one is unusual in that regard. At first I thought it was a sort of large head in the border, rising out of a flower. Under that I thought it was a long, thin body wearing a dress, with a shell behind. But none of that has anything to do with Aquarius (except possibly the shell). There should be flowing water somewhere, since Aquarius is the Water Bearer.

So now I am thinking that what I thought was a body wearing a dress is actually water flowing over the shell behind. I still don't understand the head rising out of the flower... just decorative, I suppose?
