Antique Chinese / Japanese vase ? please help me to find out what I have

Could anyone help me to identify this old vase?

 

Welcome, Magdonna! Strange piece. Those characters (or symbols or whatever) do not really resemble actual Chinese or Japanese "letters" enough to say where this is from.

How did you acquire it and where?

 

Hello I found it at flea market, but no idea what it might be

 

Okay - sometimes people have very useful information they neglect to pass on, but I guess that's not the case here. I don't remember seeing anything quite like it, but another member might have, so don't get discouraged yet. This is an international site with members from all over.

Flea markets are a smorgasbord, but it may be helpful for some of the forum members if you provided your general locale.

 

I presume vase may not be a good term- it is small - approx 26cm tall. Any ideas?

 

I don't see any place where "flowers" would go into the body of the piece. Is there an opening?

I'm not an expert but for what it's worth it looks artificially aged to me.
