Please help ID Carnival Glass

Please help with any keywords for a title--is this "dogwood blossom, orange"? ?

 

Are you basing the color on the surface or the base glass color?

The color name used for carnival glass is the color of the base glass, which you can see when you hold the item up to a strong light.

 

Just guessing looking at it. Do not have it in hand to check the base against the light.

 

Sounds like you're in a hurry. If no one comes along soon with a real answer, this might help a little bit.
I'll agree it's dogwood. I doubt anyone would say "orange." Gets fancier with names like Marigold or Peach, etc. But that's about my limit.

I should have clarified... when checking the color, it's usually easiest to tell when looking at the bottom, again with a strong light coming from behind the glass.

The names that have developed are very specific. I agree with TheOldGuy that the ddoty site is an excellent resource.

 

Thank you everyone for your help and knowledge. Have bookmarked the Doty page. Illusion looks like it is common in this color and not worth much these days.

Looks like unless you have the electric blue colors in Carnival Glass or an extremely rare pattern, that not much is selling. What to do with all of this glass?

 

Skeez, I'm curious how you could you tell that it's on clear glass without seeing the item in person? Is it so common that there aren't other possible glass colors?

 

Pat, I was thinking about that, too. Took another look at Doty's and his sale prices mention Happy's bonbon in only marigold and blue. I also wonder how the base would look with a strong light through it. Marigold, just orange. Blue? It has more of a mixture but would be just blue in the center.

Ah, so you've had a lot of experience with it. What types did you collect?

I have about a dozen pieces of carnival that were my mother's, some relatively rare and some common. I'd like to sell them, but still haven't gotten up the nerve to ship glass other than small things.

Not to correct but Dogwood has Four petals. This definitely has five petals. I wish I had 3 dollars for every piece of carnival glass that passed through my fingers through the years.

Actually, I wish I'd sold a lot of my better stuff 10 years ago. Once I saw prices falling on things, I held off, thinking the economy would turn around soon. Hah!

 

Please Greg. Don't tell all those glass manufacturers the truth about dogwood blossoms. Think of all the books and websites they'll have to change. And they'll just pass on the cost to consumers.

While here, please correct me if I'm wrong. I've had some carnival glass such as the Northwood purple fruit bowl I bought at auction in 1961. It lasted about 3 years before the kids sent it to the trash can. But the vases and some other items were family pass downs and are still being passed down.
Question. Carnival glass is technically iridized?
If carnival glass is such, is all iridized glass carnival?

Yes, Pat, I predicted the end of the downturn to be late 2011.

The answer is no. Maybe at 1/4?

I am glad you did not take my message as an insult. These damn glass companies and three authors have been driving me crazy for years. I have been writing to several authors of where they got their info. It seems that they just paraphrased others. The Dogwood is second to all the so called Vaseline propionate's in my list of
mistakes. I have calmed down a lot since I've gotten older and don't scream and yell like I used to.

Me too. I know I've sold over 300 pieces and given another 35-40 as presents. My dear to my heart will always be Fiesta. Just really sorry about selling the turquoise covered soup bowls. I found a note in some journals that I wrote in the 60s. My favorite loves were Fiesta, Vaseline, Carnival, Stangl and Sophia Loren.
