    Hmm, size of US quarter...

It isn’t a military medal. IMO it is all brass or bronze, no precious metal content. This is a trinket something like you’d put on a charm bracelet but maybe a bit large for that. The suspension attachment looks like it was soldered on. Looks like trinket quality, not good jewelry or military medal. Interesting thing but not particularly valuable nor anything I’d consider a collector’s item.

IMO the back looks to be a “later” addition to the piece.

Might there be a hollow between the face and the obverse?

I'd bet on it. I think the back is original to it & gives a more finished look. Otherwise the concave backs of parts would not be very attractive. If it were meant to attach to a cap or clothing, would expect to see perforations for sewing on. Don't think they're ever attached to dangle, are they?

I disagree, which is why I strongly recommend having it tested.

I swear I see plate that is worn off in spots, but that's hard to judge in photos. Could be odd reflections.

All those little 'rays' behind the device are not at all symmetrical with one another. I'm inclined to think it was handmade & perhaps custom order.

    I see glare, not wear.

The double-layer is the thing I cannot find anywhere else. And the back. Anything similar I have found doesn't have a back on it.

It may be glare, but I see wear. :p

The less you can find it elsewhere, the more I think it's a custom design.

It does have pitting/ wear on the back side of it I figured it was either age or how it was created that did that

It would not be at all unusual for the metal of the back to be of lesser quality than that used for the visible parts. The way furniture can have 'secondary wood' used for parts that are functional but not decorative, you might say jewellery, particularly older jewellery, can have secondary, even tertiary metal.

Unless someone manages to find another like it, doubt there is much more we can tell you. We've given our various opinions. The only way now to know anything for certain is to have the metal tested, front & back. A jeweller should be able to tell you at least whether or not a part is solid gold or something less, if not the exact grade of fineness. Shouldn't cost much at all, they might not even charge you.

Might just be a White Russian statement... supporter of the Czarist regime.

I'm uploading this (which I found when researching a different piece), only because of the similarity of construction and it demonstrates a plausible chain (18"/46cm).

The seller had zero origin information.
