    Hi all,

Hope someone can help me out. This vase was sold to me as a provincial Ming piece. It is a decent size, about 20 cm tall. I looked for similar pieces online but I can't find any. Did I make a mistake buying this?

    Thanks!

Is that a crack, craze or mold seam than runs on either side, from the rim down to the shoulder ?

Once upon its life, it had a lid. I'm no expert on Chinese pottery, but I can get that far.

I would be very cautious, and skeptical, when considering Chinese antiques. It is not a field for beginners, and it is made more complicated by cultural differences. The concept of "authenticity" (e.g. a Ming dynasty vase was actually made during the historic period of the Ming Dynasty) is very important to a Western buyer investing in an antique. But the Chinese view can be different. A modern vase made with the same techniques and style may be considered just as "Ming" as one made 500 years ago.
