    Good morning folks,

It's been a while, but I am back with a couple of items for you to have a look at.

1st on the chopping block is this guy:

It looks like it bolts to a table top or some other counter surface. It has 2 long arms that are both 7" in length and rotate 360 degrees. There are two smaller arms that are parallel to the long arms - they are 3" and also rotate with the long arms rotate. It is considerably rusted as you can see and there doesn't seem to be any markings for a brand name. There is however, a number embossed on one of the arms - 11-585 and that's about it. The device itself is 6 1/2" high and 4 1/2" from arm to arm. I will be nearby my computer to check in on answers and suggestions. Cheers!

Maybe the control levers for a piece of farm machinery like a conveyor, one lever engages the drive, other applies a brake. Anyway I’m pretty sure the two long levers are hand-operated controls. The short shafts apply several times the force exerted on levers but distance moved is less by same factor.

I understand every word you just said, Spring. Not, however, in combination!

Very interesting suggestion. I'm going to do some deep Googling and see if I can find anything that relates to hand controls for machinery. Cheers!

Silvert. pulls long lever handle with 20 lbs. force for distance of 8”. That makes short shaft move only 2” but it is pulling (or pushing) 80 lbs. What “leverage” is about.

We're clueless as to what the purpose of the mechanism is, but we'd bet anything that a rod / bar / dowel used to run between the holes at the ends of the two short arms, connecting them to form a handle. Picture it that way and maybe it'll suggest an overall function...

My guess, the two holes on the bottom were used to secure the unit to a table and then possibly a leather shoe smiths stand for shoe repairs. The arms with the rings would be for interchangeable accessories.

    Note: I haven’t a clue ;)

The longer bars are counter balancing the shorter ones. What use this linkage has is way out of my imagination. Maybe it attaches to as foot pedals to propel a lake boat?
