Featured Old diamond and platinum ring, what are these numbers?

Inherited from my grandmother who was born in England in 1911, but sadly too small for me at a size 6.5 US. My cheapie diamond tester goes off the scale with the slightest touch to the stones. What might the numbers 715-49-27 inside the band indicate?

 

I've never seen a mark like that on a British piece. I'd speculate it's perhaps a code: bible verse, or something meaningful?

 

I suppose it may remain a mystery. No other hallmarks... could it be a British piece? She did live in Canada for a few years.

 

PLAT is how we used to mark platinum and it does look Art Deco ish.

 

Phone number? If lost, please call... My first thought was some kind of insurance registry. When I decided I deserved to buy myself a class ring after I finally completed my bachelor's degree, salesman asked if I wanted them to put my Social Security # inside the band. Told him Noooo! It has my name instead. (And it's a 6.5.) So some kind of national ID number. Where was she living when she married?

Assuming it's an engagement ring?

 

My thought too. The rectangular stones must have seemed very modern.

 

England. She lived there most of her life.

It certainly looks engagement ring-like but it was not her engagement ring. She may have acquired it at a car boot sale or charity shop (she and my grandfather did a lot of treasure hunting in the 1970s), though it's also possible she received/inherited it from a family member.

 

I get the impression the stones really need cleaning. A nice thing to have handed on to you. Since you can't wear it.... Teasing, teasing.

 

The stones look beautifully clean/clear to the naked eye. My old camera phone can't focus on them properly and makes them look cloudy in the photos.

 

In the top photo,is the bottom right corner broken or just the way the photo came out?

I think the general answer is that in some way they identify the ring as the property of a particular person & do not indicate anything about the ring itself or its maker.

 

I spoke too soon. I had a good look through my loupe and there is a corner chipped off.

 

Alas. In some lecture somewhere, sometime, heard a jeweller say that any diamond that has been worn constantly for any length of time, the way engagement rings usually are, will show tiny chips at exposed edges because diamonds have such great cleavage. Like cameos, lousy ring stones.

 

Looks like 3 corners are chipped and something strange on the left side like a crack and the metal holding the stone seems to have a piece missing.The stone to the right appears to have a bubble or something in or on it.

 

I am thinking that the numbers are dates. 7-15-49, age 27? I think the numbers were engraved with special significance to the wearer.

 

I think the numbers are the combination to the lock.
