Featured Oh, how I love the Clever Blokes who sell

A little tale. The first, a pair of old boys who charge silly prices for not very good silver and junque and think some stuff is silver when it ain't. Yesterday, they had a table with one pound stuff (No, not fish.) I bought the gondola. I could see what I could see, sans loupe.

Then another bloke, who is a nice chap. I gave him some jewellery cleaner last week and he had used it on a whole cabinet of shiny things. It's all silver he said. I spotted the trombone clasp. Hm, as the pea brain kicked in. Trombone? That colour? Wee marks on the pin stem? Five quid for the brooch, he said.

HAH.

 

And then, these. Part of what was once a fabulous Jablonec bracelet, but I think with a tweak will become a pendant. Seller was more than happy with a fiver, as was the other clever bloke who sold me the brooch. He's got an operculum one I keep staring at.....

A blind man wearing a blindfold could see the hallmark on the boat!.It’s gorgeous too, with that quality how did they miss it?!

 

I see some eejit just had to scratch hell out of the back of the garnet piece. Imbeciles.
I’m not feeling tolerant today.

 

I could see the gondola, naked eye. It's heavy and has the silver feel, too. Clever Bloke only knows British hallmarks I reckon. And other Clever Bloke missed the eagle's head.

Yeah, twit scratched it. It's so obviously brass too. The value is in the garnet setting, innit.

 

So sharp they cut themselves, as the saying goes. Maybe the silver guy only counts British sterling as silver. (wonder if he misses Britannia Standard!) On the boar's head, those French marks are the devil to spot. The trombone clasp however he should have seen with his readers off! Those garnets would be a pendant now if I'd found them. Won't take much.

 

I think the silver guy is very stuck in his ways, shall we say. The brooch chap sells all sorts of stuff and really doesn’t try to be an expert. Luckily! Yea, garners will be fairly simple I reckon.

I never find eagle heads on anything! So is that gold colored one gold? 18K?

It’s an eagle head as far as I can make out. So yes, 18 carat. Happy bunny!

It’s the second gold brooch I’ve bought for the price of an expensive coffee, of late. Tee hee!

 

I think I ended up with a bit of silver today that was trying to make itself look like brass. It turns up, tellin' ya.
