I bought a whole lot of antique and vintage dollhouse furniture and accessories yesterday. As usual, there are always plenty of non dollhouse items mixed in because they were the right size or looked like something small. I have a couple of things that I can't ID.

The first is a turned bone piece with a metal collar and silver heart tab. Both ends unscrew and the center is hollow. One end had a needle of some kind in it.

The second item was a brass box, like a snuff box or matchbox. But the liner is slanted. I took the liner out and there's nothing underneath. And the liner fits tight so I don't think it's meant to come out. It's 2" by 1 1/2".

I thought about a vesta but they don't have that slanted bottom. And the other piece wouldn't hold much. You can see the needle next to it. It might hold 4 or 5 needles in one end. The other end is a little bigger than the needle and the hole is much shorter.

The silver heart looks like a wing nut, does it unscrew? It could hold a needle with sharp end at the end and the eye tight in the etui.

You're right it does unscrew and it does hold that needle (or something else like a needle). Cool! Thanks!

Now what purpose did it serve?

I'm thinking that little box is for postage stamps. The slant makes it easier to remove them when you need one.
