    Hi everyone.

A friend of mine found this ring on a field in Brasil some 40 years ago, it seemed to have been lost there by someone. It´s a mystery to us what kind of ring it is or what the signs could mean. We've been told it's real gold but the stone doesn't have any significant value. The don't seem to be any marks inside.

Does anyone have any idea what it this ring is? Does it have any value beyond it's weight in gold?

The symbol on one side is an astrological symbol for a planet, I think. Mercury, for what it's worth.

Looks like 18 carat to me.

Looks like a "lost wax" (cire perdue) method of casting, looks like a rather primitive attempt to depict the Big Island of Hawaii, the palm trees and flowers somewhat confirm that. Looks like student art to me but it would have to be a wealthy student to use gold. (I couldn't afford to cast anything in gold when I was in school!)

Does the stone have any "scratches" in it?

EDIT: I TOOK another look at it and cannot figure out if it is an island under the "arm" and / or perhaps the arm is just holding a big flower?

I stick with student art cire perdue method though.

I showed the green symbol to my sweetie but he didn't know if that was a planetary symbol or not, said he was unfamiliar with it. He worked job "cosmology" physics telecsope for 20yrs before his retirement, so I don't know. I have seen that symbol before.

Please pardon my mispellings, I am sick with a virus and I don't spell well to start with.

It's Mercury definitely, but the image of the person looks like the symbol for Virgo.

I cannot figure out why the green "enamel" (is that what it is?) doesn't show in all of the photographs?

Thanks Bear. Now I showed him again and he said, "it's possible" for the symbol for mercury planet. Geesh I should log off and go back to bed (with chocolate if possible) and sleep off this darned sick virus. ugh

Possibly the owner was born in Virgo with Mercury ascendant.
