    The age doesn't matter if it's cool, and if it were really old it would have Russian marks. A chunk of amber that large is worth some coin even if the piece itself isn't old.

    I suspect the hilt is reconstituted amber fragments.

    Reconstituted Amber. Small rejected pieces of amber are reconstructed by pressing them together with linseed oil at high pressure and temperature. This process is called amber reconstruction. The gem material obtained from amber reconstruction is called 'ambroid'.
