Any ideas on what this is?

Good evening. Our family was recently working to clean out my mother in laws house after her passing and we came upon an item the we just can't quite figure out what it might be. Not being the most savvy on antiques we were hoping someone here might be able to help provide some clarity oreven direction on what it might be.

It is glass and as you can see in the picture of the base has a threaded rod that does come apart. The best we can tell is the the base and glass center and top would separate if we unscrewed them. Not knowing what it is though we didn't want to mess with it too much.

She has had it as long as anyone of us can remember but never knew what it was. Does anyone have any thoughts on it or resources we could consult on finding out what it is?

I've seen these called "bolted urns". Probably part of a fireplace mantle garniture set. Porcelain and ormolu.
