Socket Bayonet

Any idea how to tell date this item? It is 19 1/2" long from end to end.

The most likely page on the pinned site mentioned is this one. Author seems to use socket length more than overall length.

Thanks Springfield. Need to measure just the blade. How do I get the rust spots clean?

 

If you want to resell it, don't do any cleaning at all. If keeping it, grade 0000 steel wool can often remove rust from blued gun steel without collateral damage. That's four 0's, no fewer.

I re-measures this and it is 19 3/4". BUT the way the pictures are and my bayonet are different. The slot on mine is on the other side if the blade is pointing right.

 

0000 steel wool has the odd property for steel of being inflammable in air. Put a match to some and watch it burn.

 

Supposedly if you put brake fluid on it, it will ignite spontaneously after a while. Never tried that though.
