Can anyone help with a date for this vase, and any other information if you have any?

It's approximately 4.2" high (10.5cm) and 3.7" diameter at the top (9.5cm). The central hole is 2" (5cm) diameter. It's clear glass, very heavy, and has a pattern of flat, interlocking 'guitar' shapes around the side.

As far as I can see it only has "Orrefors" and "1985" inscribed on the base. I've looked at some guides to Orrefors numbering on the internet and pattern numbers '1910/3 to 2020' are designs from 1938.

To me, this looks too "modern" to be from 1938 but I'd be very pleased for someone to tell me I'm wrong! On the other hand, the amount of wear on the base suggests it's a older piece.

I'd be really grateful for any information you can provide. I really love the vase and would like to know who designed it, and when.

    Many thanks!

1985 looks like a good guess. This is a very modern piece, and 1985 wouldn't surprise me.

    Thanks.

It's seems odd that they would start engraving a year (of manufacture?) on the base when they'd already used the same, four digit design code in the late 1930's.

I'd still be very grateful if anyone has other thoughts or information.

Their thirties glass is often very modern looking indeed. I’d think spot on with it being the manufacturing number. Orrefors really don’t do dates overmuch unless it’s limited edition stuff. Lovely lump, that.

    Thank you.

I'll keep looking for some confirmation either way. I've spent hours trawling through images on the internet and haven't seen anything similar, so it doesn't seem to be a common pattern.

It could be but I don't think so.

The central hole is 2" (5cm) diameter, so that would be a fairly substantial candle. It tapers down to a base that's the exact same dimension as the central hole (2"/5cm), so I'd be concerned about stability with a thick candle in the top.

As ever, I'd be happy to be proved wrong!

If anyone has access to a book with design lists and would let me know the description of design '1985' I'd really appreciate it. At least that would tell me whether the number on the base is a design number.

the glass has substantial weight , and a candle would be straight up and down, and doesn't have to be that tall anyways....;)

I see it as having more problems with a wealth of tilting flowers , and a cavity that just doesn't hold a lot of water once it's filled with stems...!

I also noted that there are a wealth of Orrefors that are small and hold votive candles........

I too, am always willing to be proven wrong !!!:playful::playful:
