I am a bit suspicious about these. Is gold supposed to turn that color?
    Thanks

Perhaps it depends on the alloy used?

    Perhaps silver solder was used.

You can't always tell from pics, but the earrings don't have the lustre that I would expect from gold.

I would test them, but I think probably fake. Everything fake I've ever gotten that was Chinese was marked 14k, as if they were unaware of other karats...lol.

Gold tarnishes because of the metals used to mix with the gold as Messilane said. Give it a cleaning with either a Sunshine Cloth or white toothpaste - yes I said toothpaste - and that should shine it up

    Hi,
One note for Marie. The gel type won't polish as well as the cheaper paste type.

I have a rather nice 19th C amethyst and seed pearl brooch which tarnished badly. It's set in gold, but had tarnished due to the base metal mix. Sunshine cloth did it wonderfully.
