Repro certainly, the hands are a dead giveaway.

The clock's pretty, even if it's a repro.

If it went cheap enough I'd give it house room. It looks like a nice piece of enamel work, and quality work is always worth something with or without any age on it.

My find for last week, an example of why I'm not posting anything lately, were two soup bowls in my sister's discontinued dinner pattern. The company quit making it about a year after she got married. The replacement services charge an arm and a leg, and I found two Pfaltzgraff Capistrano soup bowls for...fifty cents total. $15 each on Replacements.

On inspection, the enamel work tends to be fairly poor with bubbles and voids, and the mechanism is not all that well made.

The poor build quality was also the point made by the horologica clock repairer. Will take a look at this clock today at the auction preview and will take some close up photos if light allows

This is the usual thing, a layout found only on these repro clocks. I'd be interested to know what it sells for as I have one myself bought in ignorance decades ago, and kept as a horrible example in case I got too big for my britches, and forgot my mistakes.

I have just read the horologica link and apart from being surprised that he did not mention the rack and snail mewchanism being on the back plate instead of under the dial, he has covered it well.

One final point is that the three lobed hand shape seems to be unique to these Chinese clocks, and it is a dead giveaway on much simpler basic timepieces from the same source.

Nice score! Dollars to donuts that charm bracelet scores the most money out of any individual piece. They tend to sell for crazy money.

image.jpg Hi! I've been away for a little. I still pick up paintings here and there. I got this at a Salvation Army store a couple of days ago. It's signed Sleepy Read. Did some research and didn't take long to find out that he is a well known Texas artist, in his 90s, who has been painting nearly all his life. I love this painting. I'm now looking for a nice frame for it.
