I bought a house with this chair left behind. Does anyone know the age or if it's of some value? Please help

No great age, no great value.

If you have a cat, it looks like a chair a cat would like a lot.

Vaguely French, vaguely 70's -- but definitely comfy looking. I'll take the cat's place. :)

Ditto what they said. Certainly 70s and just used furniture at this point. Chairs like this in my Midwest neck-of-the-woods usually sell in the $50.00 range at retail in very good condition. At auction, garage sale, craigslist, etc. for a whole lot less. Might get more in CA or in large cities.

Consensus unanimous. A very attractive chair.

American of Martinsville is a quality furniture company in the USA. Some vintage mid 1900s pieces do have collectible value into the high hundreds or more, but a single chair would take quite some time to realize that. Unless you have a serious allergy it would be best if you rescue a nice fluffy cat. Preferably white. I'm sure you can find a spot where that combo would create a great conversation piece.

Komo is correct in following the old adage. "If you want to sit in the most comfortable chair in the room you will have to (should) remove the cat first."

Siamese are not known for their loving, sweet, accommodating personalities. Particularly if they do not need an immediate favor from you - like food delivered on a silver platter - NOW!!!. When sated they may. not too politely, remind you that YOU are in THEIR chair.

Next time RESCUE a non Siamese. They will show some gratitude for a non-violent atmosphere. At least for a month or so.

Better yet, get a dog. I'm sure you know the comparison. A puppy will soon become part of the family. With a cat the family shall soon become staff.

Meezers are the BEST cats! Ever!
    Except, maybe, for ginger kitties.
Although, my (now long gone) meezer did do this - snatched those ladies bald!

    Poor ladies!

My cat, aged 17, has taken to playing Tarzan at three in the morning. Sofa, chair, mantel, another chair, half wall, floor, sideboard, aaand -- back again!

Murders sleep! Some, well-behaved cats do not DO this sort of thing! Some cats act their age! And my cat is going to be sleeping in the garage if he doesn't knock it off!!!

    Hi Silver,
Take the cat to the Vet. My Ricky was doing that for a few weeks, found out he was Hyperthyroid. Since he is on "meds" he has calmed down. Also just a side note,
Ricky was "fixed" when he was 6 months old but he was mounting his poor sister all the time but did not know what to do. Just mounted her and would latch on to her neck. The thyroid meds took that action away also.

He's on thyroid meds. What do you suppose he'd be like without them? Tarzan and boy. And Cheetah for good measure!

Hello there - I'd love to help.

My name is Dr. Higginbottom. I have worked with the Revs Institute, in the department of ancient dating and care of house hold antiques. I have spent the past 20 years pouring over very bit of data I can get my hands on concerning just this type of object you have here. Believe me you are in good hands when I tell you...that what you have there....is a chair.

Wait until Stian gets the bill.

Just the co-pay will be more than the chair value.

So when I retired to my bedroom quarters last night, I simply could not put out my candle...for you see I was transfixed by further introspection on the matter we have here at hand. Eventually, I realized I hadn't slept all nigh as I noticed the dawn gently greeted me in my nightie. With the rising of the orange autumn sun, it hit me! Your chair is indeed a 16th century Japanese Koyon Master Chair. Indeed one possessing such an extravagant masterpiece could expect to fetch quite a hefty penny for it.

    Forever sincere,
    Dr. Higginbottom

Hello, again, Doctor. I have been asked to intervene in this potential transaction.

Everyone is ecstatic concerning your obvious interest. Please submit your offer in writing on this site. Be assured the site is 100% secure.

Do not misinterpret this question. It has no influence on the outcome. "Do you always go to bed in a nightie?"

    Dear Dr. Unhingedbottom :

I have reason to believe that your lack of a sound nights sleep has caused a minor & albeit temporary chemical imbalance in your frontal cortex .

My reasoning for this assumption is two fold.

First off it would appear that you are trapped in a bygone era and possibly the victim of some long ago kidnapping that has left you sequestered in the tower of an 17th century castle.
( I'm unsure of how you managed to acquire fire for your candle....but that's another matter..)

Secondly , what little information that can be gleaned from the photo's of the chair in question could not possibly elicit such an assertion from a thinking man such as yourself.
Your statement of certainty , must have therefore been arrived at while staring into the new days sun , which normally would burn out a persons vision , but in your sleep deprived condition caused your addled brain to fixate on an image of another chair you had once seen in your travels to Yi'xling prefecture.

For such a wise and learned man who purports ....nay , asserts to such a high level of intimacy on this subject , it confounds one deeply to find that you have erred in such a grievous manner.

To wit.....I believe for you dear Dr., .....it's nap time !
