He came from Italy although the 800 stamp and the origins of the Kewpie-production make me think he could be German.
He s an odd looking small fellow, don't you think?
I think he represents a Kewpie doll, which was popular from +\-1912 onward.
I also included a picture of my small golden peg doll. I already showed it here earlier, but maybe its difficult to see how it is supposed to look with all the missing enamel, so I also included a picture of how it is supposed to look with all the paint intact.(mine still has one eye!):peeking::hilarious:
It dates from around the same area, maybe a bit earlier.
I think they are adorable each on its own way. 'Kawaii'.
I missed out on a Fumsup charm that went way over my price range (cheap!) a while back.
So, what do you think of my latest find, is it supposed to represent a Kewpie?
Should I restore my Peg doll (although I think its still cute with only one eye left!)
Do you also love 'cute' jewelry?

Not "cupie" enough. Is it meant to be "Naughty"?

Hmmm you have a point, Lark. Maybe he s not 'cupie' enough to be Kewpie.
I dont know if he s meant to be naughty. Could be. But people also represented things differently back in the days.

Well, you've got one now, albeit different from the more traditional Fumsups.;)
The clue is the four leaf clover on your baby charm's head.;)
    Check out these:

So not Kewpie and not naughty at all.

And I would also restore your lovely peg doll charm.

Any Jewelry, thank you very much for your reply.
Well wouldn't you know! The jewelry-fairy provides even without asking:
    My very own Fumsup charm!:)
I ll put my Peg doll in the repair-heap for when I have the time/courage/right tools to do the repair.
Although I might have some negotiation to do: my youngest daughter insists on not touching it because she is already attached to it like it is.:cat:

Maybe not be the type you wanted, but you'll get that one too, there are bound to be more in Belgium. But the one you have now is a Fumsup, without a doubt.

I have a silver Fumsup with wooden head, a classic type. It is on a charm necklace I got from my grandmother. Since she lived in neutral Netherlands during WWI, it can't have anything to do with what happened here, the only war involvement was welcoming refugees.
But I suspect it has to do with her Belgian relatives, one of whom was a POW at the time. He came home safe and sound, so if it was for him, it may have done a good job.:) Unfortunately he was also a POW during WWII for Resisitance work.:( But he survived, and lived to a ripe old age.

Any Jewelry, what a beautiful story, and how nice you still have a family heirloom to remember the story.
Belgium wanted to be neutral too during WW1, but it turned out differently.
We seem to always have been Europe's battlefield.
I just started to watch 'Het Verhaal van Nederland' and its very interesting to see what a different past our two neighbor countries have! But also a lot in common of course.
    I love history!
Antique jewels are just pieces of history you can wear.

Unfortunately in Belgium's case a good economic location is paired with a good (bad!) strategic location.:(
True. And there are also very different pasts inside the Netherlands, the east and south especially, differing from the west.
A small country with quite a few different cultures. We in the south have always had more in common with Belgium, although at times we were under different rule, as we are now. Part of 'my' Brabant is Belgian.
