I just fell into a huge collection of antique hammers. There are cobbler, auto body, sledge, ball peen, regular, and many other types that i have no idea what they are. Is there something i should look for to begin figuring which ones are collectible and which ones are flea market hammers. Are there brands or something else to look for? There. are 300 to 400 of them.

    TIA, Bryan

    Hi Bryan,
First of all you should change your name to THOR.. I thought going through my grandfathers collection of hammers overwhelming. He had 50 or 60 I can not even think of 300 to 400. First look for handmade ones and then look at ones with names or logos, then go down the list. Best of luck to you.

I'd like to see a picture of some of the less obvious ones.

Having a collection of 300 hammers couldmake you a more interesting person.

Well here are the first pics of the first batch. There are Williams, Plumb, Snap-On, Fairmount, Fuller, Standard, Craftsman, some I can not read yet, and plenty unmarked. In the first picture the two weird shaped ones I have no clue what they are for and then in the picture with the ball peen hammers the big one is different than all the rest. You will not believe the amount of tools I just received.
    Thanks, Bryan

I can see a skutch hammer and a geologist's hammer, but it's hard to pick out the heads from the shadows.

top picture, hammer head only, two down, third row from right. It is used to remove plaster.

I'd thin out the duplicates and have a display of 30 or so different types

Here are the three I am wondering about the most out of this batch. The big ball peen like hammer in the middle is 16 1/2" tall. This is different than most of the ball peen hammers I have seen. Any idea on these three?
    Thanks, Bryan

Cobblers have various funny hammers, and the middle one looks fit for metal bashing.

Not sure about the one in the middle, but the ones on each end are leather working/shoe making/ cobbler's hammers. Sorry, but I don't know the names of them. The middle could be metalworking, but I haven't seen one exactly like it before.
