I can't think what else this could be unless it for wine or biscuits but it is 3 pieces comprising a lid, removable pierced insert and body. I originally thought Waterford - reminds me of the Alana pattern but I can't find anything like it. Not marked although I have catalogued so many pieces from Waterford not marked. There is nice honest wear on the bottom so it is not a new piece. Approx. height 7.5 in. Thank you for looking!

Like a 'double' lid?!! I'd put cotton balls in the bigger lower part!!!

This is most likely and probably wrong.
The only thing I can think of is potpourri. Take off the stopper to release the sweet aroma.
What would be the capacity of that container? About a quart?

Hmm. That perforated part must fit in there very tight. Otherwise wouldn't it fall out as you were pouring through the strainer?

I do not drink sherry or port but does it need to breathe? The second piece with strainer does not fit tight - you would have to pour holding onto it.

The wine thing sounds like a possibility then.

You don’t want sherry stored where air can get at it, likewise port. It oxidises.

Some sort of oil diffuser perhaps? You put your essential oils in it and then poke your wooden stick things through the holes? Prob wrong but it's all I can think off.

This is so mysterious. Part canister but looks like a decanter. I just made myself laugh out loud picturing myself trying to shake a cocktail in that while holding the lid plus the stopper from flying off. It certainly wouldn't be Tom Cruise style.

yup, I would suspect too heavy and ungainly and not sealed well enuf to raise up a shake vigorously ..! :playful::playful:
