    Hello everyone,

We made it to our final destination! While kicking up dust and waiting for our things to be brought in to the new home..I hunt for tidbits.

Here’s the newest girl. I suspect she’s rather recently made. For some reason the three I’ve collected so far all have little headbands. Nothing super fancy but for $20 I couldn’t resist. 4EB54DCB-A552-4C6E-ADEA-7CFEF20F9DA6.jpeg 0F321BEA-ED18-48C6-A340-783EF6B39860.jpeg 93648777-812C-47D7-B52F-990A0835AF71.jpeg

Can't think of a better way to pass the time than to go cameo shopping. Helmet shell cameo & 800 silver + marcasite setting both Italian. It's a late 40s - mid-50s look. Price was right. Congratulations! And you'll always remember how you got her. :)

Think this one may stay with me. Cheap white metal surround but I rather like the simplicity. Does this surround date her at all please?
    Thankyou :)

I'm not sure what to make of the decoration around the frame. It is much less involved than most & the way there is an open loop of heavier gauge round wire attached to each figure of flat wire all the way round is odd.

The use of the shell's color layers with the white predominant is a modern Italian look. I associate it with the Scognamiglio workshops, but no doubt not exclusive to them. By 'modern' I mean 1930 on.

Thank you. The surround is a bit like a perm that's gone out of control- curls everywhere!

I see that frame as made by someone who took a mail-order course in metalwork.

They were not at the top of their class.

I, of course, love it to bits.

To bits seems to be where it's headed!

    :hilarious:

If it weren't for the subject of the cameo, I'd say the frame was full of whimsy, but I don't think that's what the (lower case c) creator intended.

Have been trying to figure out who this cameo depicts. First thought was the Virgin Mary but tradition crown and regal style of robe seems to negate that.
Maybe Catherine de Medici? But I haven't found any paintings of her wearing a crown or holding a cross.

I don't know, although have seen others that were similar. No halo - cutter may or may not have had a particular saint in mind. There are some who were queens. Catherine of Alexandria is usually shown crowned.

I fat-fingered a search query, but ended up with this. Described as 1870s CDV Lincoln's Memorial Cameo. Dead pinterest>eBay link.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like the photo. With the soft edges and the good focus on the cameo, it attracts just as much (or more) attention as the woman in the photo does, imo. It is huge!

I have a photo or two of people wearing cameos, but none are clear enough to see what the cameo is.

Oh, dear. Now as well as collecting cameos, I'm going to want to collect photos of people wearing cameos!

Fortunately I like the cameo although it needs reframing with a simple gold or silver surround. Would that be the wrong thing to do?

I just managed to acquire a lace cameo.(It found me rather than vice versa!) No idea what I’m going to do with it.
