Early American "rooster" corner cupboard, from my cousins

Oh, I'm wrong a lot.... But I don't think Sotheby's or Christies take lots under five grand these days. You can always contact Brunk and see where they might estimate it. I see the problem with the feet, and those hinges don't add much to it. And I can't tell from the images how much refinishing has been done ... so I'm giving you a worst case scenario. The inlays are the best feature and perhaps that might push it a bit more.

Check above where I added a second one to the same post. It is different in that it has glass at the top. I was able to find some E. TN walnut corner cupboards but they did not have inlay. The one link I posted says that Cherry was most common with walnut being the second most.

Seems that Case Antiques and Auction, Knoxville might be the go-to place for this furniture.

I meant to mention those hinges as well. Can't imagine they are original like that and it might be worth putting right (or at least better) before selling.

Oh, somehow I missed the second example, in walnut. Price quite a bit higher but not life-changing.

I'd still see what Brunk and Case as well have to say as far as an estimate goes. I really wonder if it's worth hauling to NC or TN. There is absolutely no reason you cannot list on eBay as pick up only at a price you all are comfortable with after getting some auction house input. I'd check with Leland Little also. They will want close ups of the feet and of the back as well. By the time you get transportation, catalog fee, auction commission, there may not be tons left for the cousins.

That sounds like an excellent plan. Get the two auction house estimates and then decide whether to Ebay it for pickup only.

Correction, THREE auction house estimates, including Leland Little.

Question, please. Are those Alken prints to the right of the cupboard?

I don't know what an Alken print is, but if you mean are those original horsy prints, then yes, my cousin lives at a horse estate in Northern Virginia. It's all horse, all the time, up the wazoo. My cousins are trying to do something different, but that's what they inherited.

How about Pook & Pook? Not too much of a haul from No VA. Or actually they could just drop it at my house, I'm in No Va.:)

Hi SIS, I remember we are neighbors! I forget exactly where you are but I once had your address to send you that little green geometric Chinese ginger jar. I will pass along the suggestion...

I still have the little jar, it's full of coins at the moment:). I thought of you last fall when I did a flea market in Georgetown.

Here are a few more photos, taken this morning. Some people wanted to see the feet and interior. I found out that the linens don't belong to my cousins. :(

I don't know if the number you entered was right because the link comes up blank, When I entered the number I came up with two links for the piece:

This is the catalog card record of the piece:

    CATALOG OF ESDA (s-7380)

    Obj Name: CUPBOARD, CORNER
    Artist/Maker:
    Place Made: East Tennessee (attributed)
    Date: c. 1810
    Photo Number: S-7380

Clicking on the Objects name takes you to takes you to a different catalog card, which you can click to enlarge.

    CRAFTSMAN DATABASE

    Didn't find your listing.

EDIT: I went back to check my links (above) and they lead me to a different location than the first time. the aspx file seems to decide what to show you based on where you last were, so the only way to get the file is go to the start search page
    http://research.oldsalemonline.org/ProficioPublicSearch/WordSearch.aspx
and enter s-7380 for the search.

The value seems to go up with quality marquetry.

    Apparently the link timed out.
I used the search MESDA Object database. Entered the photo number and it popped up with the corner cupboard. Click on the blue Title and it takes you to a description.
