I need a new perspective every now & then, and definitely more blood to the brain...some consider me a bit of a 'drip' now, though i was considered a decent catch back in my 20's.

Oddly I was thinking drip catcher straight off. It looks like a toddler bib for catching food "drips".

So the chain catches the drips and directs them to the pocket? Otherwise, why would they drip in that direction?

I love the statement under the photo, ‘It works just about as well as you’d expect it to’ :hilarious: No wonder they are rare then!

There is a bottle in the link Cheryl shared showing it the same way but it didn't appear that they ever reached a conclusion.

Jeez, early 1900's gadjets are being critisized in 2023? Right now the railroad can't even get their cars to stay on the track - I wouldn't mind a drop of wine to leak down the bottle.

PS: How many words did I mispell? :)

The early American mind was a fertile thing-everyone dreamed of becoming Bell,Franklin and Edison.

How early are you talking - ? I imagine the early American mind was more dreaming of a banner year for crops, eggs, water retention, and animal production.

By the early American Mind,I speak of pre-technocracy U.S. (say up to the 60's).The era when a citizen might dream of patenting a viable product w/o having an MA from Stanford or MIT.
Sorry re the 18th century Early American reference (as in Pilgrims/Jefferson).

It seems that if the maker had crafted a runnel down the center to direct the wine, it might have worked OK. But IMO this thing is in the category of the "electric butt wiper" which is what my gramma called any rather useless gadget.
