Tips for removing silver polish gunk?

Have washed in hot soap and water, brushed with a soft toothbrush, and picked gently with a toothpick but silver polish remains in the crevices of a candlestick I am working on. Any other tips to remove or disguise silver polish trapped in crevices? Thought I might try some penetrating oil spray but not sure if it would do any good.

    Hi Brad,
I would try alcohol or paint thinner on the stubborn gunk. Only had one piece that the residue NEVER came out.:arghh:

Thanks for the suggestions. I have made some progress but have stopped working on it for now. It still has some gunk but looks a lot better. I don't have a water pik but will try the other suggestions later. Just posted a pic of the stick in the finds thread and you can't see the residue at all in it. It is there and I want it gone before I decide what I am going to do with this.

I've used Ketchup with good results. You can easily control where you want it to go. Let it stand for 5 or 10 minutes and it eats through gunk. Make sure to wash it good to stop the acid.

The alcohol did a great job, worked quickly, left no residue, and did not disturb the patina. I never got to any of the other suggestions so they might work as well.
