First off, another apology for the non antique but I'm at a loss on these cans. Have searched the internet and can't find them. No idea of rarity or value. I am assuming late 50's since my FIL sold his Gulf station around 1960.

That particular Gulf logo was used from 1936 - c. 1960. So could be anywhere in between.

Odd part is you would think I could find some on the web, maybe it's my search terms but having no luck finding them.

I'm not surprised you can't find them. I bet the only place they'd be is in an old Gulf station owners stuff. :)

I will throw out a guess: Maybe they were provided to station owners to touch up the colors on their gas pumps or other items on and in their garages.

I have no doubt your are correct, but I doubt my FIL was the only hoarder of a station owner LOL that thru away almost nothing.

Sorry for the very late follow up. Have been poking around some oil/gas collector sites and still very little info on these. Though a couple fellows had some cans of other pump colors. So the only thing that has been deduced is they were sold to Gulf dealers for touching up Gulf logo'ed equipment (pumps, etc). As far as value looks no solid numbers have been found.

I'd think that Self Spraying ital script would be correct for the 1950s.

Preston, have you looked into Morphy Auctions? [ https://www.morphyauctions.com/ ]
They frequently have some terrific offerings in antique advertising and petroliana, and seem pretty knowledgeable about such stuff. You might try to inquire of them...
