Well, my goodness! I had read this thread to learn what the object was and then didn't check back after all the great information was given. . .then I noticed it had exploded to 3 pages & got curious about what 'new' info could have come along. . .is it something in "the air" today with the snotty posts?

 

I was wondering the same thing. And both newbies too, you could be excused for thinking it is one and the same person.

But the original posted item just HAD that “sterling look” to it too, even if it didn’t say so!!!

 

he said silver plated kinda thing.......so he was on the silver hunt !!

 

I have never seen a plated one, the ones I saw where all solid silver.
The lingam and textile covering where often covered with tamarind juice or pulp as an offering. Tamarind is brownish red.
Maybe Garageguy saw some tamarind residue and thought it was copper showing through.

It represents Bhumiraj (King of the Earth), also known as the Black Rider. He is said to ride around your house at night to protect it, hence the name Black Rider.
The necklace it is on is mid 20th century, garnets with silver berry pendants for fertility and prosperity.
