Hello All, can anyone identify these hallmarks? Bracelet is made of sterling silver and pig iron. Purchased at a garage sale in North Carolina. Thanks, Randy

Looks like it was made by a blade smith and didn't know marking with a sterling stamp was illegal.

    Good Grief!
BTW, anteks...you an' I are the only folks in several decades to use that 'pig iron' phrase to my (limited) knowledge...outside of members of the US Navy, in reference to forces afloat, particularly carriers.
Welcome aboard...you're in friendly company here!

'Pig Iron',what a picturesque old world.A term Jack London or Steinbeck would've used.

Pig iron, also known as crude iron, is an intermediate product of the iron industry in the production of steel which is obtained by smelting iron ore in a blast furnace.

    more than just a term.......it's a thing ! :playful:

I know pig iron. Partly, I studied chemistry. Partly, I read John Masefields poetry.

I could bore you rigid with the Bessemer process. After half a century it’s still fresh in my mind.

Not quite. I was accepted to read organic Chemistry at uni, decided not to, so did a technical management trainee role. That got me into early IT. I’ve always been in a scientific field though. After I’d decided not todo chemistry, I found a degree course in astronomy with French. Too late by then, I’d have loved it. I also nearly went for air traffic control which is another tale again.

Called "pig iron" because the molten metal was run out into molds carved in the sand bed around the furnace. The main runners were called "sows" and the small ingot molds on each side of the runners called "pigs" because they resembled the piglets.

I'll bite, why illegal if it is indeed sterling?

It is not sterling,it is iron. The whole piece needs to be 925,the amount of sterling on the piece may be 100.

But OP said "Bracelet is made of sterling silver and pig iron." so can't it be marked sterling if part of it is?

Since the "silver" chain is soldered onto the pig iron bracelet,if the bracelet was melted down and assayed the silver amount for the whole bracelet is next to nothing. The whole bracelet would need to be sterling to apply the sterling mark.
