Featured Very Heavy Bangle with Dragon Heads

Antique Tibetan silver is usually ca 900, but it sounds like the shade of red wasn't the same as with the Tunisian bangle.

 

Does it stick to a magnet?

Possibly a slightly different origin, although in the same cultural region. Definitely a less accomplished maker, maybe from a more rural area.

Silver test sets are pretty cheap. Check ebay, compare prices.

 

That's a great chart. So it's possible that the dragon bangle is between .800 and .925. I'll follow Kyratango's advice and get a white stone; mine is black, which makes it difficult to even make out the sterling marks. I have a .999 bar, too, which I can test so I'll have a solid idea of the color range.

The info sheet the seller provided with my kit also recommended filing it and testing directly on the file mark, so that the jewelry would change color. Ugh.

Thank you so much, AJ! That is absolutely fascinating. I love when my jewelry turns out to be of different origin than I had initially expected, especially pieces with such rich history as this. This is going to take me down a Google rabbit hole.

Now that I've purchased a new loupe with a bright light, I'll search the bangle for tiny hallmarks. I'll let you know if I find any.

 

Happen to have any spare bathroom/floor tile lying about? I always used the unglazed back of a standard tile for testing.

 

Yes...the image was poorly thought out...AND I should have included a link to the web page which does indeed show the proper use of a stone for rubbing the items and placement of the acid...!!
