Hi, i acquired this mug today at my local thrift shop. I tried to do some research on it but couldn't find anything similar. It weighs 1 pound and a few oz's. Also on the bottom is all brown velvet/cloth material. Its also cold to the touch so im not exactly sure what its made out of. It has a dirt residue on the bottom part that comes off very easily when i use my fingernail to scratch it off. If anyone could help me identify what i have it would be much appreciated thanks! mug3.jpg mug4.jpg mug5.jpg

Rob, is it metal? How big is it?

It looks more like some sort of pitcher to me, rather than a mug.

Measures 4 in tall and 5 1/2 in wide. I'm not sure if it is metal. There is a greenish color tint to it on the handle. Could it be bronze?

Mugs are for drinking from, pitchers are for pouring from.

I assume this was used for display only? Also possible age?

Jivvy the research is my favorite

    Maybe a shaving mug?

(edit: oh, not sure if shaving mugs ever came in metal as this appears to be)

(another edit: Mr. Jivvy says, sure metal is fine, but I don't know if that is a shaving mug)

    Hi,
I have several sterling silver shaving mugs from the 1890s. Remember silver was cheap then as was gold. Gold was 35 dollars an ounce. My parents wedding rings were 10 and 12 dollars. My first wedding ring was 40 dollars, the last was 800 dollars.

Shaving mugs are usually almost exactly like drinking (coffee) mugs. I think that pouring arrangement would still be wrong for that use.

Thank you all for the info! I guess it will remain a mystery. I assume it has some age?
