    wow. Tough crowd.

I don't get it. We see way way WAY less skilled paintings here on a daily basis (and I doubt 5% of what we see qualifies as antique).

This may have been pornography in the 50's........but now....it's just a woman...in a wet bathing suit !

On the quality of which (or lack thereof) we also comment, often in much harsher terms.
Personally I'd rather see a real honest nude, not pretending to be anything else, than a rather young girl in an outfit like this one.

Well... the original (photo?) is more than that, I think. Certainly intended to titillate, yes?

But the copy? I see art exercise.

Anything that is an expression of the creator's mind and ability is "art" by definition. Its merits and detriments are all subjective within the viewer's vision and understanding. So while many things do not appeal to me, and while I can critique technique and subject matter, I can not compare two creations and deem one "better" than the other - just more to my standards of subject and technique (including "style" or genre).

And to forestall the looming disagreements, please note that I base this opinion on the first statement above: "Anything that is an expression of the creator's mind and ability is "art" by definition." A statement that automatically disregards things produced just for the sake of producing them (ie. factory art and its ilk).

ouch - almost broke my ankle falling off that crate of superior opinion and pompous drivel masquerading as a soap box...............

The "woman" in the painting has VERY young facial features and appears to me to be about 15-16yrs old. the body on the other hand is decidedly "full blown" .. loathe the subject matter and am not impressed with the paintwork either ... Joy.

Some girls that age have bodies like that. Which doesn't mean they should be portrayed like this, on the contrary.

I see this as a painting of a young woman, not a young girl.

Of course, I have no earthly idea how old the original model was at the time she made this pose.

Believe it would appeal and be quite desirable in the same market as manga and anime, yes?

This is actually rather mainstream manga or anime (I confuse the two), so if looked at in context it is not "unusual" or offensive.

BTW - as much as I appear to be defending this piece, I do not like it personally - for a variety of reasons. But the possibility of it being considered "child porn" is not one of them. Hard, soft, prurient or innocent, I see no "porn" here - or no more than The Naked Maja, at any rate.

As far as you "not having it" Komo that is MY opinion and I stick to it. The poster asked for opinions and I gave mine, I don't recall mentioning "child porn" so I don't know where you're coming from !! I believe one is free to state their opinions on this forum without the "I won't have it " ... I find the painting , content and talent, sorely lacking, that's my take on it ... Joy.
