Chinese Carved Bamboo Foo-Dog

    How big is the dog? Doesn't look like bamboo to me either.

    Are those spaces underneath naturally-occurring or carved out?

    About 10" long.
    The spaces on the bottom look natural to me.

    If it has to be bamboo it could be the root knob at the base of the bamboo shoot, sometimes you see bamboo walking canes where the root base has been carved as a knob for the hand.



    I don't know why but Chinese root wood carvings seem to be very cheap.

    it's certainly carved with a blade and not a drill, but age is beyond my knowledge...:(
