Have been for some time now, just don't speak up much. This is a fine site and I am very glad for it since the old board on eBay pretty much crashed and burned. It is good to see all the names of posters I like and good to read and enjoy uncensored wit.

Well, today is my birthday, number 79 (!) and I received an email message of congratulation from Antiques Board sent to my primary address, not the one here, and addressed to my eBay ID, valleyfloor, and not to starsbarking, who I am here. This is magical because I have been intending to introduce myself as also being valleyfloor, just different. Well, now you know!

Thanking you all for good times,'

    Congratulations, starsbarking!

I never heard of the eBay Boards sending out birthday messages before. Must be something new.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Hola, and welcome! I'm an ebay Board casualty... they ate my lunch regularly there until a couple of folks invited me to immigrate here. So far, nobody has even asked to see my papers! Feliz Cumpleanos!

I was meaning to ask and see that no one else has.

I love your avatar picture. Is that an illustration detail from a children's book? It's delightful!

My avatar is by Cecil Aldin (1870-1935) British artist, author, illustrator. I think it may be from his book "Happy Family". He was talented at depicting animals in humorous situations, you should see his ducklings. On Pinterest I have a board devoted to his art, under my birth name which is spelled Nancy.

The thing about the birthday messages that was interesting was that there were two identical ones, both from here, Antiques Board peter@petertdavis dot com, one to my eBay ID and address and one to here for starsbarking. eBay did not send me a greeting.

Thank you for the welcome and good wishes. Happy to be an elder!

Sorry for the confusion, valley/stars.

But thanks for the info on Cecil Aldin.

Cecil Aldin is one of my favorites as well. I wish he had been around to illustrate James Herriot's books. Not to disparage the actual artist, but Herriot and Aldin just seem made for each other.

JH's last dog (that I know of) was a Border Terrier. Facially, they resemble otters, and they have a scruffy looking wiry coat. CA would have been able to capture the exact mien of the good vet's doggie!
