One sort of looks like a backwards N, but turn the tray and it looks like an elongated backwards Z; the other is either a C or a U. I don't even know where to start, but I can't find similar marks in the few reference books I have or online.

Not sure those are actual marks. Certainly not maker's marks.

Thinking this might be French or possibly German.

Thank you. What could they be? They look intentional.

This is another piece from last week's bargain estate sale purchase. There are a few others in that lot (something that I think might be a tea caddy, and a couple of cups and saucers) that have very deliberate incised marks but nothing else. I can usually identify backstamps but I have no idea where to start with these.

Although the pictures are very small, the style of the painted flowers looks german to me. Possibly Dresden. Try searching Dresden and see if you can find a match.

I googled Dresden and I agree, many of those pieces do look similar! But no matches so far.

Oh my! That is a gorgeous tray. My entire house would be loaded with trays if I allowed myself. I love the cut outs.

My mother is trying to get her hands on it! It really is beautiful. Unfortunately there are too many cats in this house to safely display everything, so my mom may wind up with it after all.
