Signature help

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this signature. I have been trying everything to decipher it. I have tried to upload an image of the painting but I keep getting an error

Charles, would you be kind enough to post photographs of the entire painting including frame from both back and front? Subject, technique and era all might provide clues as to artist. Someone will be along shortly with instructions to help you do so.

In the meantime, please tell us where in the world you found your painting and what you were told about it.

Your photos have to be below 1mb, preferably 640 x 480k. Most photo editing programs can resize pictures, and if you're on a smartphone you can send a photo to yourself and it will be resized automatically.

If you're getting an error message that your image is too large, first try emailing it to yourself as "MEDIUM"....that should make it UNDER the 1 MB size limit..... otherwise there are more suggestions above, from @Any Jewelry !!

 

Hi @charles1967 and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!! @Debora is correct, MANY clues from the whole image itself can be gleaned, so it's best to post it when you get it figured out.....if you need more help, PLEASE ASK.....we DO try to help!!! From what I can see of that signature that you were able to post, it looks like I'm seeing a tiny date (and it's always possible I can be wrong!) that looks like 1918.....but I have also taken some color out of the image (can sometimes help to clarify what we're trying to see) and Inverted the Dark image you see.....showing both for comparison......with many eyes looking, it can often help!!! TO ME....the E. is clear, then I think the next cap letter looks like a large 'f' with the date I mentioned UNDER the next two letters, (arrow on the whiter rendition) tall letter I can't make out, and not sure if 'er' next. Last name looks like it starts with C, maybe o, r, and unclear, possibly ending in 'g' .....you may get better help from other/more eyes!!!

Thanks everbody for helping me with this message.I live in Scotland Glasgow. I Purchased the painting in a local Glasgow auction about a year ago as Scottish School but not 100% Positive it is.

 

Stylewise it could be Glasgow School/Scottish School. What made you think it may not be, any clues?

It is beautiful either way though.

 

Very attractive as is frame. You have a good eye. I see something like "E. Gordon Carmony" for signature but don't think that's right.
