Got my biggest piece of coin silver to date. I did paid up for it though but I had to have it. Weighs 180 grams and is made by Henry White from Fredericksburg, Virginia. 1788-1827. Is there a better more approximate way to date this piece based of off design? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Congrats, Spartcom! I trust you'll be cleaning it up. ;)

I don't think there's a way to narrow the date range down on the basis of shape/design. None of the designs of that period were patented and named.

Perhaps an historical records search by a genealogist could help. You have some initials.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I think once you have it cleaned we "MIGHT" be able to help a bit more on the marks.......but that's a maybe too.......you have HW in the rectangle with either a star or asterisk down to the left of the H, and "bb BB" just above the rectangle as well........in the last image.......lower down I think the same HW is showing as well......tipped down in opposite direction.....

Waaaaay back 'when' I used to have a small collection of coin silver......but you know me and silver.......HATE to polish it!!!:joyful::joyful::joyful:

Beautiful item - looks like somebody already "Polished" it with a scouring pad - I'd leave it as is - unless you are really good at polishing all them scratches out. :nailbiting:

I'll polish it to remove the tarnish and may inquire about having the bowl fixed. Kind of cool the bowl is worn right where it is, shows that it was used a lot throughout time.
